Kinja'd!!!

This is a picture of my car I took this morning, I just noticed one of the tires is low (not flat though). The building's air compressor is inside the fenced off spot to the right. But that doesn't help me in the least.

I keep a 12volt mini compressor in my trunk at all times. Used to work in Trenton, NJ and would pick up nails on the regular so walking outside and seeing a flat tyre was a common occurrence for me.

You can get one of these for about $5. I've never seen any reason not to have one in the boot of every car you own.

Imagine the Three-Stooges level of machination involved in passing the hose under the fence and using the pump from the other side.

It's like I don't even need television anymore.

The fence ends in that picture. However I lack a hose, shrader valve attachment, and a key to the gate.

"You look for a hose with a Schrader valve. And you, get up over that fence!"

Have you ever used one of those to pump up a car's tire? I presume no, otherwise you'd know there's a reason for not carrying one.

"And land on the roof".

...or you do what I did and just take it slow with the half-aired up tire for a mile and a half and fill up at home.

And lose a pantleg to a guard dog. And get slapped by a pretty young lady after asking for her hose. And get poked when you reappear with a shredder and say you don't know where the valve is. And consume someone's necktie with it. And play tug-of-war under the fence with the hose you do eventually find, banging your head on the fencepost. And...

Just take it slow? You'll never be a Stooge with that attitude.

Yes, I have pumped tyres up with them. What was your point?

In my experience, they're worthless. Perhaps the ones I've bought are quite different from the ones you've bought.

Oh, they're definitely junk, and I'd much rather have a proper pump. But if you're careful, you can get air into a tyre with one at least a few times before something breaks - have to be careful the gauge doesn't get knocked or it starts to leak, and you have to be careful to push down nice and straight with your foot. When you find yourself in the middle of nowhere with a slow puncture and no spare, it's enough to get you back to civilisation at least. If you have the money to put a good pump in each car you own, even better - but most people have better things to spend $50-100 a pop on.

I once had to put ~20psi in a car tyre with one of these (or similar):

I'd rather have had the foot-pump :)
